I too have fine, limp hair, so I get a perm twice a year. Have a pro do it for you %26amp; may I suggest that you ask the stylist to alternate pink %26amp; gray perm rods? This is the best combo of perm rods to use, so your hair will have lots of volume once it loosens up in a few weeks. If you got bigger rods, you'd end up with a body perm, which wouldn't give you the volume you want. Don't shampoo your hair for 48 hrs. after your perm, then once you do, be sure to get your ends trimmed every six to eight weeks. Your perm will last much longer. No, it won't be like cutting your perm off, because it's just the ends you want to have cut. A good perm, with regular trims, will last you a good six months or a little longer.

I wouldn't reccomend a perm. There are lots of volumizing shampoos that are great. Also use volumizing product. The best thing to do is put mousse in your hair after you shower and blow dry upside down so it gives your roots more volume. Also when you're done styling tease the roots and comb the top layer. Just adding volume to the roots alone will make your whole hair look thicker and more voluminous. If you don't know how to tease google it and you'll be able to find lots of videos to show you how. Good luck

I have really fine hair too. I always get long layers cut when I get a haircut-- that helps. I wash with a mild shampoo and only use a leave in conditioner. At night I sleep in those pink spongy curlers so the next couple days, my hair has a wave to it. And I use mouse and hairspray.

A few select laboratory studies may be performed, as indicated by features of the history or physical findings.

Serologic tests may include the following:

Iron studies

Thyroid function tests

Rapid plasma reagin (RPR) and Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) tests

Antinuclear antibody (ANA) tests

Serum and urine amino acid levels may be determined.

If tinea capitis is a concern in the differential diagnosis, microscopic examination for fungal elements and culture for fungi may be performed.

Telogen effluvium is a form of nonscarring alopecia characterized by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. A chronic form with a more insidious onset and a longer duration also exists. Telogen effluvium is a reactive process caused by a metabolic or hormonal stress or by medications. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 monthsThe most important aspects are the history and the physical examination.

In the case of a woman, if virilization is evident, laboratory analysis of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-sulfate and testosterone may need to be obtained. Some authors have suggested that total testosterone level alone may be adequate to screen for a virilizing tumor.

If a thyroid disorder is suspected, obtaining a thyrotropin level is indicated.

If telogen effluvium is present, laboratory analysis of serum iron levels or a biopsy to note an underlying papulosquamous disorder may be indicated. Telogen effluvium may accelerate the course of pattern alopecia. Iron deficiency is a common and reversible cause of telogen effluvium. A normal CBC count does not exclude iron deficiency as a cause of hair loss. While a low ferritin level is always a sign of iron deficiency, ferritin behaves as an acute phase reactant, and levels may be normal despite iron deficiency. Iron, total iron-binding capacity, and transferrin saturation are inexpensive and sensitive tests for iron deficiency.

Diffuse alopecia areata may mimic pattern alopecia. The presence of exclamation point hairs, pitted nails, or a history of periodic regrowth or tapered fractures noted on hair counts suggests the diagnosis of diffuse alopecia areata.
